Dancing
Queen

You can dance, you can jive, having the time of
your life
See that girl, watch that scene, dig in the Dancing
Queen

Friday night and the lights are low
Looking out for the place to
go
Where they play the right music, getting in the swing
You come in to
look for a king
Anybody could be that guy
Night is young and the music's
high
With a bit of rock music, everything is fine
You're in the mood for a
dance
And when you get the chance...

You are the Dancing Queen, young
and sweet, only seventeen
Dancing Queen, feel the beat from the
tambourine
You can dance, you can jive, having the time of your life
See
that girl, watch that scene, dig in the Dancing Queen

You're a teaser,
you turn 'em on
Leave them burning and then you're gone
Looking out for
another, anyone will do
You're in the mood for a dance
And when you get
the chance...

You are the Dancing Queen, young and sweet, only
seventeen
Dancing Queen, feel the beat from the tambourine
You can dance,
you can jive, having the time of your life
See that girl, watch that scene,
dig in the Dancing Queen

Republic of
Korea

South Korean
Flag

TRIVIA;
The Korean
national flag is called Taegukki.
The meaning of the Korean National Flag
is very philosophical. The origin comes from the old oriental philosophy called
the theory of Um-Yang, in Chinese pronunciation Yin-Yang. Yin means dark and
cold, while Yang means bright and hot. The idea of Yin-Yang is supposed to have
originated from the old Korean philosophy of Sam shin meaning three gods. A very
old book called Chuyok or Iching in Chinese, which was written by the Chinese
several thousands years ago, claims all objects and events in the world are
expressed by the movement of yin and yang. For example, the moon is yin while
the sun is yang; the earth is yin and the heaven is yang; a woman is yin and a
man is yang; the night is yin and the day is yang; the winter is yin and the
summer is yang, etc. Yin and yang are relative. Yin and yang are opposite and
struggle each other while they cooperate in harmony. The harmonious state of the
movement of yin and yang is called Taeguki, or Taikukkki, Taichi in Chinese,
which is also the name of the Korean national flag, i.e. Taegukki. Ki means a
flag. The upper half circle, red, of Taeguk means yang and the lower half
circle, blue, means yin. They stand for the state of harmony of yin and
yang.

The symbols, called Kwae, in the four corners, mean the
principle of movement and harmony.

The white colour of background
stands for the peace and the purity of the Korean people who have loved to wear
white coloured clothes. Therefore, the Korean people have been called the
white-clad nation.

The symbols, called Kwae, in the
four corners, mean the principle of movement and harmony. These are Kun meaning
heaven, Yi meaning fire, Kam meaning water, and Kon meaning earth. Each of them
symbolizes a different state of movement.

To conclude, the symbols, Yin,
Yang, Kun, Yi, Kam, and Kon, express the principle of the movement of all
objects in the universe and the movement of the universe itself. It also stands
for peace and harmony.

okay, i will post some trivias here too^^ (thanks again for the great topic!, it really helps a lot!)

Technically speaking, South Korea has 8 provinces. So that’s the answer.
However, it has a total of 16 administrative divisions. These include the 8 provinces; the Special city, the national capital of Seoul; 6 autonomous Metropolitan cities; and the special self-governing province of Jeju.

With a total area of 98,480 square kilometers, South Korea is close in size to the state of Kentucky, which is 104,659 square kilometers. This would rank it 38th among states ranked by area.

The president of South Korea is Roh Moo-hyun. He has been in office since February 25, 2003, and was preceded by Kim Dae-jung.

Trick question. The Korean War is still officially going on. Its duration is 57 years and counting.

A reasonable answer would be three years, which was the length of actual fighting, from June 1950 - July 1953.

With a population of over 3.6 million, Busan, also spelled Pusan, is the second largest city in South Korea. The port city, located on the southern coast of the nation trails only the capital, Seoul, whose population exceeds 10 million.

hope this trivia would help us also!^^

The characteristics of Korean food

For
centries, the Koreans have eaten the products of the sea,the field, and the
moutains, because of the features of the Korean peninsula and a distinguishing
climate which makes Korean food more abundant.Korean foods are very
special, exotic, and particular. The most distingushing feature of the Korean food
is the spiceness. The basic seasonings-red pepper, onion
,soysauce,bean
paste, garlic,ginger,sesame,mustard, vinegar,wine
have been combined in various ways to enhance Korean foods.

Korean
food has various side dishes. Favorite side dishes are beantaste soup, broiled
beef,fish,cabbage "kimchi", and steamed ]vegetables
.
"the full course Korean meal "is called "Hanjoungshik".It is composed of grilled fish, steamed short ribs,
and other meat and vegetable dishes with steamed rice, soup, and"kimchi".

"Kimchi" is the best known Korean food. It is
vegetable dish, highly seasoned with pepper, garlic, etc. It is served with every
kind of Korean meal and it stimulates the appetite like pickles. Large
quantities of "kimchi" are usually made in late fall
or early winter for the winter. the making at this time is called "kimchang". "kimchi" contains amounts
of good nutritions such as vitamin C,and fiber.

Koreans
also like meat dishes. "pulgoki" is one of the
famous dish to Westerners. "pulgoki" is generally
called "Korean ]barbecue
".
It is marinated in a sause made with soysauce, garlic, sugar, sesame oil ,and other
seasonings, and cooked over a fire in front of table. For the other special
food, "kalbi" , the short ribs of beef or pork is
also good. The recipe is similar to "pulgoki".

Soups
,"guk" and "cchigue" in Korean vary in taste and
potency. Through the history, the soup culture was developed because of the
famine or cold weather. When our ancestors were short of food, they made soup
with small amount of vegetables and beef bones . Also the hot soup could play a
role in protecting the cold . "maeuntang" is
spicy, hot seafood soup that includes white fish, vegetables, boybean
curd,redpepper powder. "twoenjang-guk" is a fermented
soybean paste soup with baby clams in its broth. For the soups, there are other
kinds of soups such as "miyok-guk","kimchi-cchigue".

Vegetable
dish is also popular in Korea. We, Korean traditionally eat more vegetables with
rice in main meal than meats and the vegetable dishes are various in kinds and
tastes. Korean call dishes made with only vegetables "namool".There are two kinds of which are "saengche" , cold and raw "namool" and
"saengche" , warm and steamed "namool".

Korean
table settings are classified into the 3-"chop",the
5-"chop", the 7-"chop",9-"chop",12-"chop" setting according to the number of side dishes served
except rice, soup, and"kimchi". The average family
takes three or four sidishes. When a family hold celebrations or party ,a dozon
or more delightful dishes are served. Korean food is shared by diners

in one table, except rice and soup. All the dishes but hot soups are set at one
time on a low table at which diners sit to eat.Chopstick and spoons are used for
eating. Different from Japanese and Chinese,Korean use more thin chopstick made
by metal,not wood.

Generally, the Korean diet uses much grains and vegetables which add fiber and
protain from both vegetables (bean curd, beansprouts, bean paste, ,soy sauce) and
meats.Korean food has moderate calories and low fat and sweet taste- very
healthy and well-balanced. The Korean diet is changing and the Korean food
industry is developing as fast as the speed of train. Even though the Western
style and fast food diet are more and more famous in Korea in terms of curiosity
and conveinence, the basic diet remains.

KOREA

NOTES

Supporters of each side claim the other started the Korean War, and their claims are virtually impossible to prove. Regardless, both governments considered themselves lawful governments of all Korea. North Korean troops seemed better prepared. They poured across the 38th parallel, nearly driving the South Korean Government (which had already been weakened by guerrilla fighting) into the sea.

The U.S. got United Nations' sanction--a Security Council resolution, in Soviet absence--to intervene. It landed troops and began a heavy bombing campaign. The U.S. drove North Korean military forces back to the Chinese border. At that point Chinese "volunteer" troops intervened in support of the North Koreans, fighting the U.S. back down to the 38th parallel. After long truce negotiations, the 2 sides agreed to an armistice in 1953.

The U.S. spent as much as $80 billion on the Korean conflict, losing 54,246 men. The war was more costly for the Koreans, especially in the north. U.S. bombers destroyed virtually every building in the Democratic People's Republic.

Kim Il Sung was an important independence leader, and he has led North Korea since independence. But the government campaign to glorify his thoughts and actions is incredible. His name is always preceded with titles such as "Beloved and Respected Leader, Comrade" and his pictures (and statues) are posted prominently throughout North Korea, and may even be found at the bottom of soup dishes.

South Korea's armed forces, now numbering over 630,000 men, have been subsidized by the U.S. since their inception, for a total of $5 billion in loans and grants. The U.S. currently has 42,000 troops stationed in Korea.

Under martial law President Park has outlawed all opposition to the Government. Under his emergency decrees, suspected critics can be arrested without warrants and imprisoned without trial.

The Korean CIA has a network which not only spies on the activities of people within South Korea, but keeps tab on Koreans abroad. In 1973 it kidnapped Kim Dae Jung, Park's 1971 presidential opponent, while Kim was in Japan, and then smuggled him into Korea.

In late 1973 large student demonstrations and a national petition with hundreds of thousands of signatures called for democracy. Park's regime responded with repression, arresting hundreds of students, journalists, churchmen, and others.

Anticommunist evangelical Protestants, including the Reverend Sun Myung Moon's Genri Undo sect, are important backers of the Park regime. They have been subsidized by the ROK Government and right-wing U.S. evangelical organizations. The U.S. based Campus Crusade for Christ staged its "Explo '74" evangelical student congress in South Korea, drawing several hundred thousand believers.

For Koreans, the
Philippines is the new Florida

It seemed, all of a sudden, that South Koreans were practically
everywhere in the Philippines – in malls, universities, the country’s
top resorts, and even on local television shows

From up north in the cool city of Baguio to Davao City
down south in Mindanao, Korean restaurants and groceries, bearing
Korean-language signs, can be seen. They have established everything,
from churches, hotels and resorts to gigantic manufacturing facilities.

Less than four hours away by plane from Seoul, the Philippines has an
English-speaking population known for hospitality, a significantly
lower cost of living, and some of the most postcard-perfect beaches in
the world. At the same time, Koreans are bringing in buckets of dollars
into the Philippines both through consumer spending and direct investments.

In 2006, Koreans took the number one spot both in tourist arrivals and
foreign investment in the Philippines. More than 570,000 Koreans
visited the country last year,

Mini-Korean communities are now scattered all over the country. Aside
from the usual restaurants and groceries, there are Korean internet cafes, salons, spas, and churches. All have prominent Korean-language signs and few offer any English explanation.

Thousands of Korean students flock to the Philippines during the peak
months of January-February and July-August – school vacation time in
Korea – to take crash courses in conversational or business English.

many Korean parents also opt to have their children take
up high school and college in Philippine schools and universities,
instead of just short courses, to make sure that they learn English
well. The cost of enrolling here is significantly cheaper than sending
the kids to school in Canada or the U.S., and the passion for English
back in Korea is intense.

Dubbed Korean television dramas – called Koreanovelas locally – are a passion on primetime TV.

Koreans are in the Philippines to stay. From the perspective of chilly,
expensive Seoul, the Philippines seems to hold the same appeal as
Florida does in the United States for residents of New York, and as a
result the Philippine Retirement

it seems that korean wants the phil. lol!
now i know it takes LESS THAN 4 HOURS!!!!.. from philippines to seoul.

Death Defying Existence

I took this picture in Korea National Museum.
Walking along its corridor lined with flower wreaths for a thousand
faceless names, my spirit saluted these Filipino heroes who fought for
a land that's not theirs. I could never have risked my life this way...

did you know that ....
About 50% of South Koreans now call themselves Christian, which makes South
Korea the second most Christian country in Asia, after the Philippines. The
result is that many Koreans tend to see things as right or wrong, black or
white, good or bad, and they try to apply (often inapplicable) rules to render
new things or ideas comprehensible and/or acceptable to their very-structured
world view. Understanding how Koreans think is a big factor in successful
language-teaching to adults; it is much less an issue with children.
