Singer Lee Hyo-lee is moving to a villa complex in Seoul at the end of this month.

It is in Seoul Non-hyeon, and it is a complex worth more than 20 billion won, and Lee Hyo-lee has gotten a villa.

Yoon Eun-hye and Chae Jeong-an already live here, and if Lee Hyo-lee joins them, it will turn into a place for rich celebrities.

An internet user posted the news, and Lee Kyung-kyu always lives near this villa.

Actor Ahn Jae-hwan was found dead Monday apparently from suffocation. He was 36. His death came in less than a year after he tied the knot with famous comedienne Jeong Seon-hee.

The actor, whose real name was Ahn Gwang-seong, was found in his sports utility vehicle parked in Hagye in northern Seoul in the morning, Nowon Police Station said. The point of death is assumed to be several days before. According to interim reports, there was no sign of choking or medication but as briquette ash was found inside the vehicle, the actor could have killed himself using gas.

Observers assume a recent string of business failures could have driven him to the drastic choice. He reportedly left a note in the car. In the note, he said he loved his wife and asked people to love his wife. He also said in the note that he wanted to donate his organs, if he was not found too late.

Ahn, who owned several bars, restaurants and shoe stores, reportedly suffered from bankruptcy and he recently had to sell the lucrative bar he owned in Gangnam as a last resort.

Some observers said Ahn had long showed signs of suffering. A couple of weeks ago, he was sacked from his job as a TV presenter at an entertainment news program ETU allegedly because he had missed several live broadcasts. Some media reported that he hid himself since then, but his agent explained it as a mere attempt to go on diet.

Ahn gained popularity by appearing in numerous TV dramas such as "Tears of Diamond", and "My 29-year-old Stepfather". Along with his elite image as a Seoul National University graduate, he acquired a unique position in the entertainment world and extended into other businesses using it.

Ahn is survived by his wife of 10 months and comedienne Jeong, with whom he held home-shopping cosmetics business. His body was taken to Taenung Sacred Heart Hospital.

He reportedly called up his wife around Aug.21, which the investive body assumes to be the last call he had made. A reident nearby said he had seen Ahn's vehicle at the same spot for about a month.

Salad
Song - A duet by Yoon Eun Hye and Lee Dong Gun

Yoon Eun Hye
and Lee Dong Gun sings a duet!

Here's a surprise, Yoon Eun Hye and Lee Dong Gun suddenly
sings a duet in the form of a Salad Song.
It's a laid back number, good listening for a lazy
Saturday morning.

Yoon Eun Hye doesn't necessary have the strongest
voice, but she can carry a tune and sings this song about fresh fruit and
vegetable (no?) with ease. And Lee Dong Gun (who just released his first full
length album entitled My Biography)
provides the same laid back vocals in this song.

They sing
...The Salad Song!

The song
is quite addictive i must say, and i've listened to it three times
already!

The Salad Song - Yoon
Eun Hye and Lee Dong Gun singing about refreshing & delicious apricot
salad.

]Worldwide demand for Korean language study grows
About
ten years ago, it was not easy to find expatriates studying Korean
language in Korea. But these days, it is not a big deal anymore to see
overseas fans holding placards written in Korean to welcome singer and
movie star "Rain" or TVXQ when they are on international tour.

As Korean TV dramas have become hits abroad, not only have actors like
Kwon Sang-woo, Bae Yong-joon or Lee Young-ae won international
popularity, but the overseas demand for Korean language education has
also grown apace. This is all thanks to the Korean wave and the growing
influence of the country's international status.

In Minnesota, the United States, Americans learn to speak Korean and
experience Korean culture at Concordia Language Villages
(http://www.concordialanguagevillages.org/newsite/). There, the program

In Minnesota, the United States, Americans learn to speak Korean and experience Korean culture at Concordia Language Villages (Open the link).
There, the program participants, including not only ethnic Koreans, but
also non-Korean background U.S. students and educators, can expand
their knowledge about Korea. The Dean of the Concordia Korean Language
Village Ross King, Associate Professor of Korean at the University of
British Columbia, is one of several active Korean language supporters
who stress the importance of studying Korean as one of the leading
world languages.

In Sydney, students at Saet Byol Korean School wear traditional Korean
clothes (Hanbok) and learn the Korean language and Hangeul writing
system every weekend. According to data from the Korean Education
Centre in Sydney, currently 70 Korean schools teach Korean in
Australia. Some schools teach it as a second language subject for
non-Korean students.

The Korean language has become a must for job searchers in countries
like China, Japan or other trading partners as Korea's trade volume
increases. A certain level of Korean is also required for key positions
such as city councilor or police officers in some areas to handle
Korea-related matters like business or civil affairs.

The number of international students who want to study Korean language
is also growing. Nowadays, it is not as unusual as before to see
overseas students coming to Korea to study Korean. Whether mesmerized
by Korean culture shown in TV dramas or movies, or just interested in
learning the language, nearly 10,000 students come to Korea every year
to study Korean and apply for the Test of Proficiency in Korean
(TOPIK), which 72,292 people took last year. More than 150,000 people
applied for the test this year alone, showing a two-fold year-on-year
increase.

45th BAEKSANG ARTS AWARDS

February 27th, 2009 // by javabeans

New Actress winner Park Bo-young
Awards!
The 45th Baeksang Arts Awards were held on the
evening of February 27, which means: lots of awards for film and
television stars, and lots of clothes to gawk at.
There were no real surprises in the winners list; they’re mostly a
variation of the same lists we’ve been seeing from the other ceremonies
in the winter awards season. Some film winners include A Movie is a Movie and My Dear Enemy, while acting honors went to many of the Daesang winners from earlier awards, like Kim Myung-min, Moon Geun-young, and Sohn Ye-jin. Oh, and a little actor going by the name of Lee Min-ho took home one of the newcomer awards — but a stumble on the red carpet keeps him humble.
Check out all the winners (and the clothes!) beyond the jump:

Winners Kim Myung-min, Moon Geun-young, Sohn Ye-jin, Joo Jin-mo
Winners List
FILM PORTION
Daesang: Kang Woo-seok (Public Enemy Returns, 강철중:공공의 적 1-1)
Best Picture: Celebrate Our Love (경축! 우리사랑)
Best Director: Lee Yoon-ki (My Dear Enemy, 멋진 하루)
Best New Director: Lee Choong-ryul (Old Partner, 워낭소리)
Top Excellence, Actor: Joo Jin-mo (Frozen Flower, 쌍화점)
Top Excellence, Actress: Sohn Ye-jin (My Wife Got Married, 아내가 결혼했다)
Best New Actor: So Ji-sub, Kang Ji-hwan (A Movie Is A Movie, 영화는영화다)
Best New Actress: Park Bo-young (Speed Scandal, 과속스캔들)
Best Screenplay: Kang Hyung-chul (Speed Scandal, 과속스캔들)
Popularity Award: Joo Ji-hoon (Antique Bakery, 서양골동양과자점 앤티크) and Park Bo-young (Speed Scandal, 과속스캔들)
TELEVISION PORTION
Daesang: Kim Hye-ja (Mom’s Dead Upset,엄마가 뿔났다, KBS)
Best Drama: Mom’s Dead Upset (엄마가 뿔났다, KBS)
Best Culture Program: Choosing Dokdo (그것이 알고싶다 ‘독도의 선택,’ SBS)
Best Variety Program: Kim Seok-hyun (Gag Concert, 개그콘서트)
Best Director: Shin Woo-chul (On Air, 온에어, SBS)
Best New Director: Bu Sung-chul (A Star’s Lover, 스타의연인, SBS)
Top Excellence, Actor: Kim Myung-min (Beethoven Virus, 베토벤 바이러스, MBC)
Top Excellence, Actress: Moon Geun-young (Painter of the Wind, 바람의 화원, SBS)
Best New Actor: Lee Min-ho (Boys Before Flowers, 꽃보다남자, KBS)
Best New Actress: Yoon-ah (You’re My Destiny, 너는내운명, KBS)
Television Entertainer, Male: Kim Byung-man (Gag Concert, 개그콘서트, KBS)
Television Entertainer, Female: Park Mi-sun (Sunday Sunday Night, 일요일일요일밤에, MBC)
Scriptwriting Award: Yoo Hyun-mi (Scale of Providence, 신의저울, SBS)
Popularity Award: Kim Hyun-joong (Boys Before Flowers, 꽃보다남자, KBS) and Yoon-ah (You’re My Destiny, 너는내운명, KBS)
Outstanding Achievement: Lee Soon-jae (Mom’s Dead Upset, 엄마가 뿔났다, KBS)

Sohn Ye-jin (My Wife Got Married), winner
in the film category for Top Excellence, always looks chic and lovely
on the red carpet. I don’t think the gown is particularly noteworthy,
but the fit is awesome and she looks beautiful and polished, as usual.

Good lord. Moon Geun-young (Painter of the Wind)
is a fantastic actress who only keeps getting better, but I am
disturbed to see this obviously emaciated (and ever-shrinking) young
star being lauded in the media for her “beautiful clavicle line” and
overall appeal in this look when she frankly looks very, very sick.
Shouldn’t someone… be helping her?

Kim Myung-min (Beethoven Virus) took Top
Excellence for his Kang Maestro, as well he should. Though he’s going a
little casual without a tie, I dig the double-collar look on him. He
looks comfortable and relaxed.

Now, on the other hand, as for his Beethoven Virus co-star….

Really, the question here shouldn’t be, “What in the freaking hell is Jang Geun-seok (Beethoven Virus)
wearing?” but rather, “This is Jang Geun-seok. At an awards ceremony.
Surely you are not surprised by now?” This is just par for the wacky
course for Jang. (If he’s going for Odagiri Joe-ish or Kim Jae-wook-ian
eccentricity, um, it didn’t work. He doesn’t have the requisite “I
don’t give a damn so bugger off” vibe to pull that off.)

Yoon Eun-hye (Coffee Prince),
although I like her hair and makeup styling. It’s just that the bodice
looks so tight and stiff, like the material expended all its energy
holding in her chestal region that the rest of the dress gave up and
said, “Eh, good enough. Let me just hang out in the back here.”

Lee Junki (Iljimae) has found the look that works for him, and it is the three-piece tux. As an aside: is he growing out his hair? (Yay?)

Joo Ji-hoon (Antique Bakery), you won a popularity award! Would it kill ya to smile, Mr. Smirky Grouchypants?

Joo Jin-mo (Frozen Flower) goes formal with tails, and looks gooood.

Park Shi-yeon (La Dolce Vita) is really
coming into a strong style of her own, isn’t she? Love the color and
the bright belt — which looks classy instead of gaudily clashing — and
this fits her absolutely perfectly.

Her Marine Boy co-star Kim Kang-woo ain’t looking too bad himself.

Bubble skirts can be iffy for an event like this, but this dress is so flirty, cute, and whimsical on Moon Chae-won (Painter of the Wind). Age- and event-appropriate. Love!

Once again, I must ask: This baby-faced Song Chang-eui (Scale of Providence) is supposed to be playing Kwon Sang-woo’s older brother in their new drama? Psh.

The gorgeous Kim Ji-soo (Women in the Sun) is stunning in red.

Han Ji-hye (East of Eden) is kinda working
that Clueless-ian “Monet effect” — pretty from a distance, but up close
all the individual parts are a bit off. The dress’s super shininess and
color in combination are a little gaudy, her makeup is bland, and
there’s nothing I LIKE about her look… but she still looks pretty. Just
not her best.

Female Band Hopes North Korean Pop Stylings Will Win Fame in South

Seoul
30 July 2006

In the struggle for pop music fame, it helps to have a unique selling point, especially in a saturated media market like South Korea's. An all-girl group of musical hopefuls in Seoul like to teach the world to sing - North Korean style.
Most up-and-coming pop bands here in South Korea do not feature an accordion as one of their lead instruments. This band features two.
On an afternoon of pouring rain, five attractive young women aged 19 to 28 gather in a small dance studio in southern Seoul to practice their music.
Their unique sound reflects a unique common identity: all five women defected from North Korea within the last three years.
They call themselves "Dallae" - naming their band after a sweet berry plant that Koreans of North and South harvest in the springtime.
As trained musicians and dancers back in the North, the women say they did not suffer the same type of severe hunger and deprivation that drives so many thousands of other North Koreans to leave their country. Most of them defected in order to join a family member who had already made the difficult and dangerous journey to the South.
Twenty-eight-year-old Han Ok Jeong says nowadays, she lives a dual life.
Han says in her private life, she tries to blend in with South Korea's modern and fast-paced capitalist society. But in her music, she wants to stand out as a North Korean.
Dallae accentuates its traditional Northern sound in its first CD, set to debut in South Korea in August.
This single, "Mot Jaengi" - which translates loosely as "Stylish Guy" - is based on a form of North Korean music called a "trot." However, as the title indicates, the lyrics tell the story of a Korean woman's love for a man who wears the latest trendy fashions.
Such a song would almost certainly be forbidden in the North, where the Communist elite tolerates absolutely no music it deems to be subversive.
The women say they did not know each other before arriving in the South, and were brought together by their manager and producer.
Though they do not specify exactly how they came to South Korea, nearly all North Korean defectors cross into China, then pass into a Southeast Asian country before making the journey here. If they are caught by Chinese authorities, they risk being sent home, where they are likely to face severe punishment.
The Dallae members say they enjoy their new life here in the South, but 19-year-old Kang Yoo Eun says there are still some things she has trouble getting used to.
Kang says she is always shocked when she sees South Korean boys and girls with their arms around each other in public. She says doing that, or even holding hands, would be unthinkable back in the North.
The women say if they become rich and famous, they would like to find a way to help improve social welfare for people in their impoverished homeland. Their ultimate dream, they say, is to return home and see family members they left behind and maybe even give a performance in the northern half of a reunified Korea.
